Looking Rash

Sparky and I are on vacation. We traveled to Atlanta to visit my sister and then on toward GeoWoodstock XV. We are not spontaneous people. Sparky has an agenda that schedules our trip by the hour. That said, I’ve become rash. And not in a “fly by the seat of my pants” way. Β It started on Sunday. I had an itch and Sparky willingly scratched my back. But that just made the itch worse. By dinner time I was very itchy. He looked at my back. I had 2 large angry red spots that were raised and had tiny blisters all over. We applied spray on Benadryl that just about did me in. Long story short I have a raging rash on my back, neck, face, ear, and arm. I have a prescription ointment for everywhere except my face. The face is only treated with a mild hydrocortisone. I itch. I burn. I am not a happy camper. I don’t know what caused this rash with hives and wheals and welts. The theories are:

1. I ate something that has caused an allergic reaction.
2. I am getting shingles.
3. I some how got poison ivy.

By slathering myself in a variety of anti itch topicals. I’m eating antihistamines. Still I itch. And it is spreading. I have a spot on my eyelid, behind my other ear, and along the edges of my lips. I feel like I’m becoming a zombie with my skin rotting off.

  1. Oh, dear — nothing to spoil a nice vacation like an itchy rash. I hope it isn’t shingles, but it doesn’t sound like it. I’m glad you were able to get a prescription ointment, and hope it helps in time for GeoWoodstock!

  2. Oh no! Is poison ivy the only plant you are allergic to? I know you are so miserable!! Is there a minor emergency center near you? I hope you improve quickly! Peace to you

  3. 😦 Oh no! 😦 Ugh! 😦 I’m so sorry to hear about this, Val!
Are you feeling any better today? Seeing any signs of it disappearing?

They make those zombies on TV look so appealing πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ …and like their lives are all fun and games…but, that’s not true! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜› So, you don’t want to be a zombie for very long.

    Prayers for healing, soon.

  4. Been trying to remember what your g’pa Karl said they used in the army when he was a hospital orderly. …a bath solution but not epson salts. I hope you are getting over this! Let us know.

  5. You need a nice, gooey oatmeal bath. It would probably be best to wait until you’re back home, though. Brett and I had a great day with you and Sparky today! If I don’t see you in the morning, have a safe drive home. That came out weird. Have a safe drive home whether I see you in the morning or not!

    1. We made it home safely. The rash has spread to my upper arm and to the other side of my back. That doesn’t bother me as much as the spot on my eyebrow and eyelid!! I am going to try to get into the doctor on Tuesday – I’m hoping it isn’t poison ivy. And I have a duplicate tag…
