Looking at the Sunshine Blogger Award

A big thank-you to Cherie White at https://cheriewhite.blog/  for nominating me for this blogging award. Cherie blogs about bullies with a keen insight into how they manipulate their victims and also what makes them tick. It is an interesting and illuminating blog that sheds light on the dark side of  life with a bully. As someone who has been bullied in the workplace, I often find myself agreeing and commiserating on the experiences she discusses.

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community. Now, how does it work and what are the rules?

Here are the questions Cherie posed to me: (I’ll answer them “to the best of my recollection”)
1. How did you get started blogging? I started blogging on Xanga in 2007 as a means to keep in touch with my younger sister and her family and with my mother who she roped into starting a blog.
2. How long have you had your blog? I had to switch to WordPress when Xanga finally bit the dust though there are still few friends who still use that platform. I would be there if they hadn’t made it nearly impossible to pay for my subscription. So all together 13 years – 3 on WP and 10 on Xanga.
3. Are you an animal lover? Hehe! You might say that. As a Registered Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Nurse I have worked with most species of animals. I’ve owned lots of regular pets along with some more “exotic” ones.
4.Dog or cat? I like both. I’m a little partial to cats. But truth be told I prefer rats and mice to cats and dogs. If I could be an animal I’d opt for something that could fly – probably a bat (a flying mouse)!
5. Stephen King or Dean Koontz? Neither? I’m not a big fan of the horror genre. I much prefer a solid Fantasy/SciFi book. It relates to my overactive imagination which fed horror stories makes my dreams into nightmares.
6. Have you written and published a book? Yes. I have a book to my name, though no one on WP has ever read it and I doubt anyone would be interested. The title is “The Laboratory Rabbit” (second addition) I not only wrote half the chapters, I did all the illustrations and took most of the photos! I also did the illustrations for the book “The laboratory Mouse”, again a teaching/reference text that is a very niche market.
7. What would be your favorite vacation spot, the mountains, or the beach? Neither. I’d prefer a geotrail through Ohio or Michigan or even Pennsylvania!
8. Where would you like to retire to? I’ve already retired to it. That is, my current location in Indiana. It is perfect. It is warm in the summer and cold enough in the winter to kill all the bugs. Spring and Fall are beautiful. But best of all – the extended family is right here!
9. What is your dream car? Hmm. This is a tough one. I love the Tesla except there are only 3 charging stations in my area. I also like the Toyota Prius. Since I already drive a Prius C, I’m pretty sure I’d love the slightly larger and fancier Prius!
10. What do you think is the best blog post you’ve ever written? That is a really hard question. I’ve written so many! I have been writing on WP since 2017 and have written 543 posts so far. I was on Xanga for 10 years and wrote 3159 posts. Considering all that according to WP stats my most viewed post was July 29, 2019 but I don’t think that was my best… I’d say Looking in the Window on June 8 of this year – maybe…
11. Music or TV shows? Hmm. How about books with music playing in the background. I remember reading Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy to Dvořák’s  Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”. It was really a great combination! I had the LP and had it on repeat. I nearly wore that record out!

So next are my questions – hold onto your hats!
1. What famous actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life?
2. If you could change your name, what name would you choose?
3. What event in your life would you like to “do over”?
4. If you had a prehensile tail would you keep it or have it amputated?
5. You have just stepped into a time machine, what year in history would you visit and why?
6. What is your favorite comfort food?
7. You can change your eye color (any color(s) at all), what would you choose?
8. You have been granted 3 wishes, what do you wish for? (more wishes is not permitted)
9. Your pet can talk, what do you think they’d say about you?
10. How old were you when you got your “first kiss”?
11. (last but not least) Which would you rather be able to do – tap dance, juggle, or ice skate like an Olympic athlete?

As for nominations, I don’t want to pressure anyone. I would however love to see some of your answers, especially:

    1. Thanks Michel! I am so glad to have reconnected with some of my Xanga friends here. I had worried that I’d never hear from them after Xanga crashed. I enjoy your posts and wish you and Janine continued happiness!!

                    1. Hmm. I’m thinking that if you didn’t have at least a couple compassionate moments Cupcake would have kicked you to the curb! Seems more likely that you have the crusty exterior of a well made muffin with a soft interior… Just my guess. Cupcake would have to confirm or deny.

  1. No. 5 made me think about a book I read recently: A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World, by C.A. Fletcher. It satisfied two of my three guilty pleasures. A dystopian/apocalyptic dog story, with strong female characters, it was only missing the time travel component. (I don’t consider strong female characters to be a guilty pleasure)
Stephen King’s The Dead Zone and 11/22/63 are not the scary, give-you-nightmares kind but rather the what-if kind of fantasy. ~sigh~ So many good books; so little time!

    1. Hmm. I think I will see if I can find that one (A boy and his dog at the end of the world). Sounds like one I’d like. I’m not a Stephen King fan at all. Probably turned off by the movie adaptations. Cujo was an awful movie and Pet Sematary was unwatchable. Though The Shining and The Green Mile were very good and The Shawshank Redemption was too… Still not a fan.

    1. Very fun answers! I’m flattered that you’d want to purchase my book, but really you shouldn’t waste your money unless you are planning to perform medical procedures on rabbits! (Besides the last time I looked it was running $54 a copy)… If you get that TARDIS do you think you could swing by and pick me up?? I really would like to do some traveling!

  3. I don’t want to do a whole post and nominate people, so I’ll just answer your questions here:

    1. What famous actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life?
I can’t imagine there would ever BE a movie about my life, but if I’m going to dream, I might as well dream big. Robin Wright (the Princess Bride).

    2. If you could change your name, what name would you choose?
I always hated Joan–too plain, and too easy to mix up with Jane, Jean, June, Joann, etc—but after 51 years, I’ve grown oddly attached to it. As for an alternative, maybe Penny or Sophie?

    3. What event in your life would you like to “do over”?
I would like to have lived by myself for a while when I was young, rather than sharing a dorm or apartment with a roommate and getting married as young as I did.

    4. If you had a prehensile tail would you keep it or have it amputated?
Unless you can convince me a tail would be useful for something, I’d have it amputated. I’ve got enough problems finding pants that fit.

    5. You have just stepped into a time machine, what year in history would you visit and why?
2015. I would warn everyone about Donald Trump. I would also revisit 1991, when I sewed a pair of wild print chef pants for Brian, and turn it into a business. Nobody was wearing them in the early 90’s but they became very popular later on. I could have made millions.

    6. What is your favorite comfort food?
Guacamole and tortilla chips. I often packed it for lunch at work so if the day went bad, I’d have something to look forward to.

    7. You can change your eye color (any color(s) at all), what would you choose?
I would not change my eye color; they’re blue, and I’ve been told they are my best feature.

    8. You have been granted 3 wishes, what do you wish for? (more wishes is not permitted)
    Enough money to live comfortably
To forever be as physically healthy as I was at 18
An end to junk mail and robo-calls

    9. Your pet can talk, what do you think they’d say about you?
To my face or behind my back? LOL. They’d say I’m the greatest mama ever, but they’d like three walks a day, no more canned food with liver in it, dog movies once a week, and a step stool to make it easier to get into bed. No idea what the cat would say… that I’m a klutz?

    10. How old were you when you got your “first kiss”?
My first kiss from a boy was in the second grade, so I was 7. My first real kiss was on a date when I was 16.

    11. (last but not least) Which would you rather be able to do – tap dance, juggle, or ice skate like an Olympic athlete?
I’d choose juggling because it’s so versatile. You can entertain a crowd anywhere, anytime, with any three appropriately-sized items.

    3. What event in your life would you like to “do over”? My first year of college. I would chose Wyoming instead of Long Island. Somewhere out West like Dakotas, Wyoming.
    4. If you had a prehensile tail would you keep it or have it amputated? Keep it!
    5. You have just stepped into a time machine, what year in history would you visit and why? 1950’s when there seemed to be some good opportunities abound as tv was just beginning.
    6. What is your favorite comfort food? Spaghetti with cheese.
    7. You can change your eye color (any color(s) at all), what would you choose? Green.

    10. How old were you when you got your “first kiss”? 13
    11. (last but not least) Which would you rather be able to do – tap dance, juggle, or ice skate like an Olympic athlete? Ice skate like a ballerina. Because I love ballet!

    I don’t have a pet.

    10. How old were you when you got your “first kiss”?

    11. (last but not least) Which would you rather be able to do – tap dance, juggle, or ice skate like an Olympic athlete?

Tap dance cos I have two left feet!

    1. Sadly it wasn’t the cost – they were set up to fail when even if you were willing to pay you couldn’t! Any business that doesn’t have a method to collect $ won’t keep the customers. I paid for one year and it took me 2 months to renew after multiple emails back and forth. Finally got it but it was a real headache. The following year when I was due to renew – I had no response and after multiple attempts I left for WP…
